The most common mechanism of this condition is atherosclerosis , when the arteries that supply the heart with blood become narrowed or blocked with cholesterol deposits within the wall.
Coronary Artery disease are usually screened & investigated using Exercise Stress Test or CT-Angio.
The Gold standard for diagnosing CAD is a Coronary Angiogram. CAD can be treated with Coronary Angioplasty/Stenting , usually carried out at the same sitting as the angiogram ie minimally invasive techniques performed through the wrist
This is a test that assess how the heart is functioning during increasing physical activity. Dr Timol will be present throughout this test to help diagnose changes that occurs that could suggest coronary artery disease.

This is the gold standard test to diagnose CAD which can then be treated with Coronary Angioplasty/Stenting , usually carried out at the same sitting as the angiogram ie minimally invasive techniques performed through the wrist. Dr Timol uses the safest and most up to date techniques to yield the best results. He also uses stents of the highest quality available in Mauritius

Percutaneous Coronary Intervention(PCI formerly known as angioplasty with stent) is a non-surgical procedure that uses a catheter (a thin flexible tube) to place a small structure called a stent to open up blood vessels in the heart that have been narrowed by plaque buildup, a condition known as atherosclerosis.

A pacemaker is a small device that is placed under the skin in your chest to help control your heartbeat. By providing an appropriate heart rate and heart rate response, cardiac pacing can reestablish effective circulation and more normal hemodynamics that are compromised by a slow heart rate

These are structures within the heart which allow uni-directional blood flow. Problems can arise when the valves do not open properly (stenosis ) or if the valve does not close properly ( Incompetence). Valvular pathology is usually diagnosed with Echocardiography. Dr Timol has performed over 6000 Cardiac Echocardiographies. He ensures that every cardiac echo is done with precise measurements to generate an accurate 2D image of the valves and heart function.
These are diseases of the muscle of the heart which can affect the function of the pumping activity of the heart .They can be diagnosed on cardiac echo. Sometimes , they can be inherited and it is important that first degree relatives of the patient are screened. There are new classes of medications that can help improve the heart function. If undiagnosed and untreated , these cardiomyopathies can result in heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms. Cardiomyopathies that needs specific interventions or cardiac devices are referred overseas.
These are disorders of the cardiac rhythm which emanate from the conduction system within the heart. An abnormal hearbeat can be an irregular heartbeat, a slow or too rapid beating of the heart. Some of these are serious conditions and can predispose to strokes or even cardiac arrest and premature death. If you think you are experiencing an abnormal heart beat, its very important to see your cardiologist. There are tests that can be done to record the cardiac rhythm – these are called Holter monitors.
This is a condition whereby the heart is unable to pump blood adequately to other organs. It includes HFrEF , Heart failure with reduced pumping function & HFpEF, Heart failure with preserved pumping function. Treatment modalities include medicines, coronary reperfusion & Cardiac devices such as ICD & CRT
